Abdominal Blunt Trauma

Abstract
Also the abdominal trauma in Military Hospital is beeing seen with increasing regularity, mainly due
to the rapidr increase both the speed and number of mtor vehicles in use today. Because of the Surgeon¢¥s
accumulating experience with management of these problems, previously high mortality and morbidity
have been greatly reduced, but as might be expected, a considerly high mortality was noted, it appears
to be in part to the greater amount and variety of trauma sustained and in part to greater difficulty in
diagnosis and administration of proper therapy. So clinical observation was made on 108 cases of abdo
minal blunt trauma operated, at Tri-service Army Hospital in Kwang-Ju, from Aug. 1967 to July.
1971. And the following result was observed.
1) 53 cases(49.1%) were by moving vehicles, 31 cases(28.7%) by blow and kick, 24 cases (22.2%)
by falsl.
2) The intra-abdominal organ in order to involved frequency was small bowel, spleen, liver, kidney,
stomach, bladder, retroperitoneal hemorrhage.
3) The extra-abdominal organ in order to involved frequency was 44 cases by contusion and laceration
and 35 cases by fracture, 15 cases by urethral injuries.
4) Abdominal pain and tenderness, rigidity, rebound tenderness were the most frequent symptoms.
Preoperative leukotosis were noticed in 85% of cases. Accurate rate of abdominal paracentesis was 71.2%
and free air on the X-ray examination was noticed in 63.2% of cases.
5) Postoperative complication developed in 28.7%, and the over-all mortality was 5.6%.
